Website design mistakes to avoid

Time Management Techniques That Will Change Your Life

As a marketing strategist for photographers, I come across many websites. Unfortunately, many look self-made and lack the essential design and informational elements of a successful website. Find out how to build a website that clients love and how to avoid the most common web design mistakes.

Here are the most common website design mistakes you should avoid:

#1 Using the wrong font size

If you use a font size that is way too small, nobody is going to read your content. 16px should be the absolute minimum for your main body text. Anything
less is not comfortable to read.

#2 Using the wrong font
There are millions of font types out there, but not every font is easy to read. Choose a font type for your content (body text/paragraph) that is easy to read (for example, Open Sans), while still being in line with your branding. Try to reserve more brand-driven font types (for example, handwritten styles) for headers and your logo.

#3. No client testimonials

Besides showcasing your beautiful work and presenting yourself in an about section, publishing your testimonials on your home page is an essential factor that will help you convert website visitors into actual clients.

#4. Stuffing your pages and blog posts with hundreds of photos

Not only is this a mistake design-wise it also makes your website slower, which directly affects user-friendliness and your SEO. Publish only the best of your photos and update them every now and then.

#5. Too much information on one page

Avoid using too many different design elements and too much text. Clarity in both wording and design is essential to create a user-friendly website. Transmit
your brand design, message, and information clearly and on point.

#6. No Calls-To-Action

Start integrating calls to action in the right spots. Think about guiding the visitor/client through your website with the goal in mind that they will want to
contact you! The easier you make it for them to contact you, schedule a
phone call or a consultation, the easier you will generate more inquiries.

#7. Not investing in a professionally designed logo

There are many ways and online platforms to get a professional logo design and it doesn´t have to be expensive. A professionally designed logo will help transmit your brand message in a clear manner and it should integrate seamlessly with your overall branding.

#8. Mixing different design styles

Combining completely different design styles might work in your living room, but
not on your website. Choose a theme or template and stick to it. As mentioned in
#5 too many design elements will create confusion…

Website Design Mistakes – The Takeaway

If your goal is to attract many new clients and rank on Google a bad overall user experience will be your downfall. Good websites speak a clear language and create an easy user journey.
